At Fitzmaurice Primary School we believe that we should support all children to aspire to be mathematicians. We will help children to explore the connections between the different areas of maths and develop their mathematical thinking. We will develop the children’s multidimensional fluency, ensuring that children have efficient, accurate and flexible methods for solving problems. Mathematical concepts will be explained using a variety of appropriate representations and models to aid understanding. We will ensure that a variety of procedural and conceptual maths is taught so that the children understand the “how” and the “why” of what they are doing. We hope to inspire a life-long love of mathematics and ensure the children have the skills to solve real-life, everyday problems as they grow older.
