We are a year 6 class and you will find us in the classroom nearest the main entrance.

Term 2

This term, our class book will be The Explorers by Katherine Rundell, immersing the children in the fascinating world of the Amazon Rainforest and inspiring them to write their own exciting journey narratives. In Geography, we will investigate the key question, "Why does population change?", exploring birth rates, migration and population growth, and how these factors shape communities around the world. In Science, we will continue our learning about forces, with a particular focus on friction through practical investigations. We will also enjoy a dedicated DT week, during which the children will design and create their own pop-up books. As the festive season approaches, our attention will turn to all things Christmas, including carol singing, seasonal activities and a class Christmas party to round off a busy and enjoyable term.

Term 1

Term 1 is going to be a fantastic term for Year 5 and 6! Our topic is all about the Vikings as we explore the question: Were the Vikings raiders, traders, or something else? Our class text, Riddle of the Runes, will bring this exciting period of history to life and support our learning throughout the term. In Art, the children will create retrofuturistic space-themed artwork, experimenting with a range of techniques and media. In Science, our focus will be forces, where pupils will investigate how forces work, use newton measurements, and create and test pendulums. We also have some exciting opportunities beyond the classroom. The Year 6 children will be heading off to Pencelli for their residential adventure, while the Year 5 children will be taking part in an engaging ongoing project throughout the term.
