At Fitzmaurice, we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art and Design provides the children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas.

Our Art curriculum develops creativity, sets challenges, engages and inspires children and equips them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.

At Fitzmaurice, we recognise that Art and Design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world. It enables children of all abilities to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form and pattern using a variety of artistic media.

We encourage children to explore ideas and meanings through the work of a range of artists and designers. Through learning about the roles and functions of art, children can explore the impact it has had on contemporary times and cultures. We believe that the appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts can enrich all of our lives.
