In Swift Class this term we have been learning about People and Places. Our Class Mouse Pip became lost and wrote us letters about where he might be and the children became brilliant cartographers making maps of places they know, the school and the classroom. During Science week Pip became a pirate and the children explored Floating and Sinking and made boats that would carry pirate treasure. We learned about what lives in the sea and explored how we could keep the sea clean to help all the creatures that live there. We have been exploring night and day and all the people who help us who have to work through the night, including midwives, policemen and doctors. We have been thinking about what things we love to do and writing about what jobs we might do when we are older. In maths we have been learning about how to split numbers into two parts and making part-whole models for numbers to 5. We have been amazing at learning our phonics and astounding everyone with our fabulous spelling! We also loved dressing up on World Book Day and talking about our favourite stories.

It has been a very exciting term in Wagtail class. The children really enjoyed participating in World book Day and it was lovely to see them dressed up as book characters.  Science week was also very successful with everyone taking part in the experiment to investigate what happens to different materials when they are put in the ocean. The Year 1s have been busy writing instructions for jam sandwiches and fruit kebabs.  Everyone really enjoyed making and then eating the kebabs!  In Maths the Yr1s have been learning about addition and subtraction, they have been using some 'fancypants' vocabulary to describe their working-out which has been very impressive.  The FS2 children have been learning to count to 20 starting on different numbers as well as continuing to work on partitioning 5.  In Art all of the children have learnt the skill of paper rolling to create 3D pictures and then the amazing 3D spider that you can see hanging outside Wagtail class. In Geography the children have been learning about what it is like to live in Shanghai and comparing it to life in Bradford on Avon.  There was a real split in the class between those who were keen to live in the busy city and those who prefer a quiet life in Wiltshire!  They all enjoyed using Google Earth to locate different places and see how you would travel from one place to another.

This term, our Year 1 and 2 children have had an exciting and engaging time filled with creativity, curiosity and learning across the curriculum. We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters, sharing stories and developing a love of reading. During Science Week, the children became “curious chemists,” exploring what happens when materials are mixed through fun, hands on experiments such as making fluffy dough, creating explosive bicarbonate and vinegar reactions, and investigating colourful changes with a rainbow Skittles experiment. In English, the children used their new scientific knowledge about animals and their habitats to write imaginative explanation letters, explaining why it would be impossible to keep certain animals in unsuitable environments, such as penguins in bedrooms, sharks in baths, or giraffes in living rooms. It has been a fantastic term of discovery, creativity and enthusiasm for learning!

As we reach the end of term, Year 3 and 4 have so much to be proud of! One of the highlights was our fantastic performance of Dragon, where the children wowed us with their amazing singing, confident solos, and brilliant acting skills.

In English, inspired by our class book Varjak Paw, the children became journalists and wrote their own newspaper articles about missing cats. They showed great creativity while using direct and indirect speech, as well as rhetorical questions to engage their readers.

In Maths, the children have been working hard on fractions, including comparing fractions, converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, and placing fractions on number lines. They have also developed their understanding of mass, learning to read scales and convert between different units of measure.

In Science, pupils explored pulls and pushes and magnetism, we also enjoyed an exciting Science Day, based on our topic on forces.

It has been a wonderful term full of enthusiasm, curiosity, and achievement - well done to all our pupils!

Term 4 was an engaging term for us all in Year 5 & 6. We explored the fascinating world of deserts, discussed their environments, and considered whether we would enjoy living in one. In Science, we built on last term’s learning with a new focus on planets and the phases of the Moon. Our class book was Can You See Me?, a thoughtful story about an autistic girl named Tally that encouraged empathy and understanding.  During Science Week, the children took part in a range of exciting investigations and experiments, including designing and testing straw rockets and pop rockets. They enjoyed exploring how forces affect movement, making predictions, testing their ideas, and evaluating their results. We also celebrated World Book Day, dressing up and sharing stories with younger year groups.
