Fitzmaurice School has always been part of the local community and was established in 1928. The school has evolved over the years into a vibrant, modern community with the aim of achieving ‘Excellence and Enjoyment for All.’
The school is in the southern half of the town, close to Barton Farm Country Park and with easy access on foot to the canal, river and leisure facilities of Bradford-on-Avon.
In 2004 the school was significantly refurbished, to include three classrooms, a new ICT suite and admin area. This was followed shortly afterwards by two further new classrooms, and a staffroom to replace old temporary accommodation.
In 2006 the improvements to the fabric of the building continued, with the completion of a “link” to unify the two separate blocks. This has had a tremendous impact on the day to day operation of the school, with nobody having to brave the elements to get from one part of the building to another.
In 2007 work began on the construction of Bradford on Avon’s Children’s Centre on Fitzmaurice’s site. This serves the whole Bradford on Avon community area and was originally governed by the school (it is now run by 4Children, who have taken over a large number of Wiltshire’s Children’s Centres). This lovely building opened in the summer of 2008, with Tiddlywinks Nursery now occupying the major part of the building. The Children’s Centre is concentrating on core services for pre-school children and their families.
A major refurbishment of our hall and kitchen was completed in September 2010 resulting in a hall which is much more suitable for PE, dining and performances. We have recently completed a lovely 3 classroom extension and improvement to cater for our rising numbers.
