Frequently Asked Questions

What will my child be learning this term?

You should receive a curriculum letter and planning overview for each term, which will be sent home via your child.  If you cannot find it, please go to the class curriculum information page.

What’s on the school lunch menu?

Autumn Menu November 2009

When do after school clubs start up again this term and which clubs are running?

This information is also in the relevant newletter, ie the last of the previous term or the first of the new term.

All school run clubs will start up during the week beginning 11.1.10.

How can I find out whether the school is closed, e.g. due to exceptionally bad weather?

By checking on this website, under news!  By listening to BBC Radio Wiltshire (103.5, 104.3 or 104.9 FM) or checking their website (bbc.co.uk/wiltshire), which gives out regularly updated lists of schools that are closed.

My child is ill; how should I inform the school?

Telephone the school on the first day that your child will not be attending (we always pick up messages left on the answer machine) and keep us regularly updated after that.  For sickness and diarrhoea your child should not return to school until 48 hours after the last symptoms, to prevent the spread of infection.

My child needs to take medicine during the school day; will the school administer medication?

If your child has been prescribed antibiotics which need to be taken 4 times a day, school staff may volunteer to administer a dose at lunchtime ,with the written permission of the parent/carer.  Please complete an ‘Administration of medication in school’  form (on stand in reception area)for this purpose.  If  antibiotics need to be taken 3 times a day we recommend  a dose be given before school, one immediately after school and one at bedtime.  This removes the need for medicine to be kept in school.

Wiltshire Council health and safety guidelines state that school staff should not administer any painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, to pupils in school.  Please note that there is no requirement for school staff to administer medication and this is done on a voluntary basis.  We will not administer eye drops or ear drops.

Children who may need a blue reliever asthma inhaler should have one in school at all times which will be kept in a safe place in the classroom.  If your child suffers from hayfever please discuss ways of managing this in school with your GP.  We do not have the facilities or staff to administer regular doses of antihistamine.

We will always try to accommodate the medical needs of  pupils if possible.  A large number of our staff  undertake regular emergency first aid training and training in the use of Epipens but we do not have a trained nurse on site.

What do I do if I want to take my child out of school?

For medical or dental appointments, phone in or send a note.  For important events of 1 day or longer, e.g. wedding or funeral, please complete a leave of absence application form, which can be found on the carousel in the main reception area.  Please note that requests for holidays in term time will only be granted in very exceptional circumstances (see Attendance Policy).
