About Us
Mission Statement
Our mission statement is “Excellence and enjoyment for all”.
History
Fitzmaurice School is one of only 2 primary schools in Bradford on Avon and has always been part of the local community. When our pupils leave us at the end of Year 6, the vast majority of them transfer to the local comprehensive school, St Laurence. Fitzmaurice was established in 1928 and has evolved over the years into a vibrant, modern community with the aim of achieving ‘Excellence and Enjoyment for All.’

Current Developments
One of the priorities that we are currently working on is to enhance our extensive grounds. Much of our purpose-built outdoor play equipment has been purchased from Playforce, a local company. We recently collaborated with them to provide feedback on their new ranges of equipment.

Class Organisation
We currently have 8 classes: one Reception or FS2 (Wren), one Y1 (Chaffinch), one Y1 and Y2 (Nightingale), one Y2 (Kestrel), two parallel Y3 and Y4 (Kingfisher and Starling) and two parallel Y5 and Y6 (Wagtail and Robin). This arrangement can vary each year as it is dependent on the number of children joining and leaving the school. From Y3 upwards the children are set in Maths and in Y5 and 6 they are also set in English
Curriculum
At Fitzmaurice, pupils enjoy a broad, rich and exciting skills-based curriculum, which is designed to be relevant to pupils’ interests, promote enjoyment, encourage creativity and independence, develop pupils’ skills and be appealing to both boys and girls.
A strength of the school’s broad and balanced curriculum is the outstanding range and quality of learning opportunities and experiences, provided through special events, educational visits and visitors, out-of-school clubs and community links. Highlights from the last school year include: environmental, maths and health weeks, Y5 and 6 visit to the British Museum in London as part of their Egypt topic, visits to @ Bristol, the West Wiltshire Dance Festival, pupils working with Bath Rugby at the REC, residential trips to Braeside and Osmington Bay and many more fantastic experiences.
In visiting any class, you will find fun and engaging activities, designed especially to enable learning, encourage independence and confidence and challenge thinking. Classroom learning environments are exciting and vivid from FS2 to Y6. This last school year was packed with exciting trips, visits from interesting people, learning in the community and great joint projects between pupils across the school. We are developing our curriculum further during 2009-10.
